Luisa, Georgii claim ITF singles titles

Luisa Fusil and Georgii Arakelian were yesterday crowned singles champions in the third Bahrain ITF Juniors 2023 tournament, which came to a close at the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) hard courts in Isa Town.
Luisa, from Slovenia, claimed the girls’ singles crown after defeating Sude Ulueren of Turkey 7-6 (1), 6-1 in their final match, while thirdseed Georgii won his title after battling back from a set down to beat Doruk Calikoglu of Turkey 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Meanwhile, the competition’s doubles titles were also secured.
The third-seeded duo of Romanian Simona Cucu and Latvian Aleksandra Rozkalne won the girls’ championship, and the Turkish pair of Emre Atlamis and Doruk captured the boys’ title.
Simona and Aleksandra upset Alina Sogomonyan and Esila Toklu of Turkey 6-3, 6-3, while Emre and Doruk overcame second seeds Georgii and Daniil Karpukhin 6-4, 6-1.
Both Georgii and Doruk were the only two players to end the competition with two medals. Following all the finals, the winners and runners-up were presented their respective trophies and medals in an awarding ceremony attended by BTF officials.
The just-concluded tournament was the first of three straight ITF events being hosted by the Kingdom in succession.
The second, which begins tomorrow, is also a J30 event, while the third, a J60 competition, will begin on 13 November.
