Doubles finalists set for ITF J60 juniors event

The doubles’ finalists are set for the Bahrain ITF Juniors 2023 tournament, currently being played at the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) hard courts in Isa Town. British top seeds Flora Johnson and Allegra Korpanec Davies will play third seeds Ariana Gogulina of Kazakhstan and Maria Shmakova in the girls’ doubles final, while boys’ doubles top seeds Robin Boeckli of Switzerland and Daskalovic of Serbia will take on Turkish second seeds Bugra Ozkoc and Aril Kayra Tuna for their title.

The championship is the third of three straight ITF events hosted by the Kingdom over the past few weeks. It is the only J60 event that is part of the 2023 International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tennis Tour Juniors, which features the world’s top tennis talents aged 13 to 18.

Flora and Allegra secured their berth after defeating the Italian pair of Angelica Sara and Annathea Sara 6-3, 6-3 in their semi-final clash. Ariana and Maria followed suit with a tough 6-1, 5-7, 10-2 upset of second seeds Simay Keles and Anna Perelman.

On the distaff, Robin and Aleksander won 7-6 (3), 6-1 against Aaron Gabet of France and Nikita Gribyakin of Estonia. In the other final four contest, Bugra and Aril battled past fellow-Turks Bora Bakici and Cagan Efe Tufekci 6-1, 7-6 (5).

Meanwhile, in the boys’ singles category, top seed Robin advanced to the semi-finals where he will take on third seed Marko Milosavljevic, while second seed Aleksander will face Egor Shcherbakov. Robin defeated fifth-seeded Aril 6-0, 6-1 in the quarter-finals, while Marko beat sixth seed Arsenil Lesniak 6-3, 6-1. Egor won 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 over Cagan, and Aleksander beat eighth seed Aaron Gabet of France 6-3, 6-4.

In the girls’ singles, top seed Angelica will play third seed Allegra in the last four, while sixth seed Flora will face eighth seed Cindy Langlais of France. Angelica was a 7-6 (4), 6-3 victor against third seed Maria Shmakova, while Allegra overcame second seed Emma Fantusis of Cyprus 6-2, 7-6 (2). Cindy was a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 winner against fourth-seeded Anna, and Flora took down second seed Karin Altori 6-3, 6-2.
