Top seeds Flora Johnson and Allegra Korpanec Davies of Great Britain and Robin Boeckli of Switzerland and Aleksandar Daskalovic of Serbia were yesterday crowned doubles champions in their respective categories in the Bahrain ITF Juniors 2023 tournament, currently being played at the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) hard courts in Isa Town.

Flora and Allegra claimed the girls’ doubles crown after defeating third seeds Ariana Gogulina of Kazakhstan and Maria Shmakova 6-3, 6-4 in their final.

Robin and Aleksandar won the boys’ doubles title with a hard-earned 7-6 (1), 7-6 (8) victory against second seeds Bugra Ozkoc and Aril Kayra Tuna of Turkey.

Following both finals, the winning and losing pairs were awarded their medals and trophies by BTF secretary general Fuad Al Rowaie and other officials. Also yesterday, Allegra and Robin both kept their hopes alive for a title double after advancing to their respective singles finals.

Third-seeded Allegra set up an exciting girls’ singles title clash with eighth seed Cindy Langlais of France, while Robin will lock horns with Egor Shcherbakov for the boys’ singles gold medal.

Allegra took down top seed Angelica Sara of Italy 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in their semi-final match to march through, while Cindy defeated sixth-seeded Flora 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

In the boys’ singles last four, Robin beat third seed Marko Milosavljevic 6-1, 6-3 while Egor upset second-seeded Aleksandar 6-2, 6-2.

Both singles finals are scheduled to be held today on the concluding day of the tournament.

The championship is the third of three straight ITF events hosted by the Kingdom over the past few weeks.

It is the only J60 event from the three, and it is a part of the 2023 International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tennis Tour Juniors, which features the world’s top tennis talents aged 13 to 18.
