HH Shaikh Khalid honours Bahrain Schools Chess Championship winners

Under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) First Deputy Chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) Chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President, the Ministry of Education organised the Bahrain Schools Chess Championship.
HH Shaikh Khalid praised the success of the third edition of His Highness’s Chess Championship for Bahrain Schools, in which a large number of students competed.
The tournament’s success reflects the efforts of the he Ministry of Education in cooperation with the Bahrain Mind Games Federation and the Bahrain Chess Club, he added.
HH Shaikh Khalid emphasised the role of mind sports, particularly chess, in enhancing students’ mental skills and thinking, promoting their abilities in sports competitions, and instilling values like commitment, cooperation, and fair competition, while also strengthening social communication skills among students.
His Highness urged for continued efforts to organize chess tournaments, highlighting its popularity and ability to motivate the spirit to challenge and compete.
He emphasised the tournament’s role in discovering talents and pledged to support the national chess team in foreign forums.
He expressed appreciation for the event’s efforts and congratulated first-place winners and students on their success Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education; Dr. Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, General Sports Authority’s CEO; and Dr. Khalid Burhan, Bahrain Chess Club Chairman were present during the event.
The minister expressed his gratitude for His Highness’s patronage of the closing ceremony of the tournament, and thanked him for supporting youth sports tournaments and school sports events in Bahrain.
He expressed pride in Bahrain’s high support for the youth and sports sectors as art of the development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa with the follow up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He also noted the role of His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs, and His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa in supporting the development of the youth and sports sectors.
The minister highlighted the success of the chess school tournament in Bahrain, which attracted over 4,000 students from public and private schools in its first edition.
The second edition saw over 5,000 participants.
The Ministry plans to promote the tournament and encourage more participation in collaboration with mind sports organisations.
HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa awarded the tournament winners across. The Minister of Education presented a memento to His Highness.
