Breath of Air lifts NBB Cup

Breath of Air lifted the National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) Cup yesterday in the feature event of a packed nine-race card at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
The events took place in the presence of the Vice-President of the Supreme Council for Environment, REHC High Committee’s Deputy Chairman and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports member His Highness Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa.
Yesterday’s winners were presented their trophies by officials, including NBB CEO Usman Ahmed.
Competing for owners Al Adiyat Racing and trainer AM Smith, Gerald Mosse saddled Breath of Air to a fine win in the seven-furling race, which was the sixth of the day, held for imported horses.
They took home the lion’s share of the BD4,000 total prize.
In second place was Gumais, representing Al Mohamediya Racing, Fawzi Nass and Anas Al Siyabi; while in third came Follow Suit for Al Remah Stable, Abdulla Kuwaiti and Abdulrahim Jasim.
All of yesterday’s nine races had an NBB Cup on offer. In the day’s final event, held over 11 furlongs with a BD3,000 prize, Rollajam triumphed for Victorious and Fawzi Nass, with Stephane Ladjadj in the saddle.
Miss Yvonne was the runner-up for Al Mohamedihya Racing, Ali Abdulmajeed and Anas Al Siyabi, while Fourth Time Lucky came third for Al Mallah Syndicate, Abduljaleel Al Mallah and Carlos Henrique. The day’s eighth race was won by Echo Through Time.
The four-year-old filly finished the eight-furlong event with a BD3,000 prize in first place for Al Adiyat Racing, AM Smith and Gerald Mosse.
Safwa was the runner-up for HH Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa and Haider Ebrahim, with Ebrahim Nader as the jockey, and Black Shadow was third for M and E Racing, AM Smith and Lee Newman.
In yesterday’s seventh race, Al Mukhtar Star won the NBB Cup for Al Afoo Racing, Jaber Ramadhan and Marco Casamento.
The NBB Cup in race five was clinched by Muasher for MJ Racing, Taleb Ali and Adnan Jaffar; while in race four the NBB Cup was lifted by Atlasy for Sayed Jawad Marzooq and Mahmood Jawad, while saddled by Adnan Jaffar.
The second race for the NBB Cup (Division 1) was claimed by Sarem for HH Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, Haider Ebrahim and Abdulrahim Jasim; while Sharid won the NBB Cup (Division 2) in race three for HH Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, Haider Ebrahim and Abdulla Faisal.
Obeyan 1867 rounded out the day’s winners, taking the NBB Cup in race one for Al Wasmiya, Abdulla Kuwaiti and Abdulla Faisal.
