Bahrain’s KHK team has dominated the first round of the Dubai Traditional Rowing Boat Race, organised by the Dubai International Marine Club in the United Arab Emirates.

Owned by His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, KHK finished first in the race in the 30-foot boat category, with captain (Nukhada) Ahmed Nasser Al Bousumait at the helm.

The kingdom’s participation in the race is supported by the Bahrain Inherited Traditional Sports Committee (Mawrooth), which is keen to ensure that Bahrain is represented in the annual heritage Gulf Cooperation Council event.

The KHK team stands a good chance of qualifying for the Al Maktoum International Race, whose title was won by the kingdom’s representative in the past two years.

The KHK team won the race amid fierce competition from 49 boats and 500 sailors, outclassing two Omani teams, which came second and third.

The KHK team won the previous two editions of the Al Maktoum Cup Traditional Rowing Race (30-foot boat category). It also clinched the title of the Dubai Traditional Rowing Boat Race seven times.
