Ahli outclass Najma in football league

Al Ahli posted a hard-earned 2-0 victory over Al Najma last night as the seventh week of action kicked off in the 2023/2024 Nasser bin Hamad Bahrain Premier Football League.

Gustavo dos Santos Cabral and Sayed Mohammed Ameen were on target for Ahli in the first half.

Cabral opened their account in the 16th minute with a shot from close range from an acute angle after a pass across the face of goal that went uncleared by the Najma defence.

Ameen then doubled Ahli’s advantage in the 28th minute with a header from close range off a corner-kick.

The result earned Ahli their third win in seven matches as they improved to 11 points on the league standings.

Najma, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat of the season and stayed on 12 points. In other fixtures last night, Manama routed Busaiteen 3-1 while East Riffa and Al Shabab played to a 1-1 stalemate.

Manama claimed only their second victory in seven matches as they improved to eight points on the standings, while Busaiteen suffered their fourth loss and stayed the only winless team left in the league.

East Riffa registered their first draw to go with their four wins as they went to 13 points, while Shabab went to seven points, also with their first draw.

League action continues tonight with defending champions Al Khaldiya taking on Hidd and Muharraq going up against Al Hala. Both matches are scheduled for 7pm kick-offs at separate venues.
