Bahrain’s senior men’s national handball team skipper Hussain Al Sayyad was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the 26th Asian Men’s Club League Handball Championship.
Al Sayyad competed in the tournament for Al Khaleej Club of Saudi Arabia, who won the coveted title after defeating Al Arabi SC of Qatar 35-33 in a tense final that went to double overtime on Monday night in Kuwait City.
Al Sayyad is on the Khaleej squad with fellow-Bahraini and long-time national team goalkeeper Mohammed Abdulhussain.
Both are prominent members of Khaleej, who not only won the Asian title, but also clinched the sole qualifying ticket to the prestigious 17th IHF Men’s Super Globe set for next year.
Al Sayyad’s selection as the MVP headlined the tournament’s All-Star Team. Bahrain’s Al Najma were also in the competition.
They were the defending champions, having won gold in its previous edition held earlier this year. They, however, could not advance past the group stage in this event.
