Bahrain-based karting sensation Lewis Smith will be making sporting history next week when he becomes the first-ever entrant from the Kingdom to compete in the E20 Senior category of the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals (RMCGF).
The event is one of the biggest global karting meetings held annually, and Lewis is one of nearly 400 competitors from around the world set to hit the track at Bahrain International Karting Circuit (BIKC).
Sponsored by Bahrain Airport Services (BAS) and European Airline Solutions (EAS), expert provider of aviation GSE, Lewis will be flying the Kingdom’s flag all throughout race week from 2 to 9 December in Sakhir.
The Briton has been gearing up for the RMCGF with some valuable testing in recent weeks in Germany, where he completed over 200 laps in an E20 kart. Lewis will now be looking to utilise that experience towards a strong performance against the best karters in the world.
“I’m thrilled to be able to represent Bahrain once again at the biggest stage in karting,” said Lewis. “The Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals is one of the most prestigious events at the grassroots level of motorsport, and to get to compete in it—against many of the most talented karters out there—on my home track is an honor and an experience I am not taking for granted.”
Lewis is set to race for the second time in the RMCGF. He also competed in the meeting in 2021, the last time it was held in Bahrain, when he showcased his potential in the Senior MAX category. “I learned a lot that year and I am confident I can take another big step forward,” Lewis said.
“I’ve worked hard over the past several weeks to be best-prepared for the grand finals. Aside from my tests in Germany, I’ve also been racing in our local championships at BIKC, and the competition has been a good warm-up for what’s to come in the Rotax event.
“I would like to express my sincerest thanks to my sponsors, BAS and EAS, for supporting me in this incredible opportunity to compete in this major event. “A big thank you most especially to BAS and to EAS CEO, Mr. Andrew Simons. “I’m excited to get out on track and get racing, and I am ready to give my all for Bahrain.”
Lewis has been honing his karting skills at BIKC since a young age. He is now a regular in national, regional and international championships and continues to excel at all levels. Lewis is continuously looking for support from Bahrain companies for sponsorship opportunities, which would offer exposure all across Europe and within the Kingdom of Bahrain.
