Ocean Star lifts Bahrain Olympic Committee Cup

Ocean Star lifted the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) Cup yesterday in the feature event at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.

The event took place in the presence of the His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the REHC High Committee; His Highness Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa, Vice-President of the Supreme Council for Environment, REHC High Committee’s Deputy Chairman and member of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports; His Highness Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa, Vice-President of the General Sports Authority (GSA); and His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Cabinet Affairs Ministry’s Undersecretary and BOC Vice-President.

Five-year-old Ocean Star triumphed in the six-furlong event for owners Al Afoo Racing and trainer Mohammed Hasan, while saddled by Soufiane Saadi. They took home the lion’s share of the BD5,000 total prize. Buffer Zone finished in second place for Victorious, Fawzi Nass and Stephane Ladjadj; and Amaan came third for Mohamed Jasim Jaafar, Talal Al Alawi and Abdulla Faisal.

The BOC Cup headlined an eight-race card at REHC yesterday. Four of the other events offered General Sports Authority (GSA) Cups. In the fourth race of the day, Rollajam triumphed to take the GSA Cup for Victorious and Fawzi Nass, while ridden Stephane Ladjadj.

The four-year-old gelding won over nine furlongs to claim the biggest part of the BD3,000 prize. Returnofthemac followed for Al Mohamediya Racing, Osama Hashim and Ali Husain; while Magical Wish completed the top three for Yousif Ahmed Alboainain, Yousif Alboainain and Salem Alajmi.

Endifaa won the GSA Cup in race five, held over 10 furlongs with a BD2,000 prize. The five-year-old gelding won for Salman Al Alawi, Talal Alawi and Ahmed Maki; finishing narrowly ahead of runner-up Master Bambu, racing for M and E Racing, AM Smith and Lee Newman.

Runaholic finished third for Redha Monfaredi Racing, Fawzi Nass and Stephane Ladjadj. In the third race of the day, Mediterranean Moon won the GSA Cup after a nine-furlong challenge for a BD2,000 prize. Edinson Rodriguez saddled the five-year-old victor for M and E Racing and AM Smith.

December finished second for Al Mohamediya Racing, Fawzi Nass and Jason Watson; while Amwaj was third for Mohammed Khalid Abdulrahim, Haider Ebrahim and Gerald Mosse. In the day’s second race, Social Distancing won the GSA Cup for Al Adiyat Racing, AM Smith and Gerald Mosse.

The five-year-old mare triumphed over eight furlongs with a BD2,000 total prize. Aquila came second for Abdulla Fawzi Nass, Fawzi Nass and Husain Makki; while Graham followed in third for HH Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, Haider Ebrahim and Abdulrahim Jasim. Elsewhere yesterday, Lathaa won in race seven for imported horses, held over seven furlongs with a BD3,000 prize. The four-year-old colt triumphed for HH Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Vanguard Star triumphed in race six, also for imported horses, held over five furlongs with a BD2,000 prize. The three-year-old gelding won for Al Afoo Racing, Mohammed Hasan and Soufiane Saadi. In race one, a WAHO event over six furlongs with a BD1,500 total prize, Kuheilan Weld Umm Zorayr 1838 won for Victorious, Yousif Taher and Abdulrahim Jasim. Another race meeting is scheduled to be held today at REHC.
