Al Najma narrowly missed out last night on winning their third straight Bahrain-UAE Handball Super Cup. The Bahraini handball giants suffered a tough 31-32 loss to Emirati outfit Sharjah Club in this season’s single-game event, which was held in the UAE. Najma were back-to-back title winners in the Bahrain-UAE Super Cup.
They had also claimed the trophy four of the previous five editions heading into yesterday’s affair. Najma fell behind 11-15 after the opening 30 minutes but valiantly fought back in the second half to make it a close game. Shariah, however, were able to hold on to their advantage until the final buzzer.
Najma were the representatives in each of the previous five contests, and the only time they did not triumph was in 2019 when they played Sharjah. The event was not held in 2020 due to the global pandemic. Najma qualified for this year’s Bahrain-UAE Handball Super Cup after winning the Bahrain Super Cup earlier this season with a victory over Al Shabab in the one-off fixture.
