Bahrain’s youth and junior national golf teams narrowly missed out on podium places in the Pan Arab Ladies and Juniors Championship 2023, hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at Riyadh Golf Club.
The Kingdom’s boys’ under-15 and boys’ under-18 squads were in the fray. It was a good experience for both teams competing against some of the region’s best golfers in their age group. The under-15 side came closest to finishing on the podium.
They were classified fourth overall amongst eight nations and were just four shots shy from clinching the bronze medal. The Bahrainis played a three-day total of 498. Tunisia won team gold with a 449 total, Egypt claimed silver on 482 and Saudi clinched bronze with a 494 score.
Khalid Shah of Bahrain’s under-15 team showed impressive form in the second and third rounds, and despite a sub-par opening day was able to finish tied-fifth in the individual category. Joining Shah in his age class were Yousif Shah, and Yaqoob Majed. The under-18 team finished seventh amongst the 10 teams in their group. They consisted of Abdulrahman Ebrahim, Abdulrahman Mehazea, and Faisal Abdulla.
They played a total of 482 over three rounds. Morocco were the under-18 gold-medallists with a 416 total, followed by the UAE with silver on 450 and Egypt with bronze on a 453 score. Bahrain’s national golf delegation at the tournament was headed by Bahrain Golf Association official Duaij Khalifa, and it included head coach Gabriel Sota.
