Al Ettihad posted a high-scoring 116-101 victory over Al Najma last night to wrap the fifth week of action in the 2023/2024 Zain Bahrain Basketball League. Ettihad used a scintillating second quarter where they outscored Najma 37-16 to turn a 24-31 deficit at the end of the first period to a 61-47 lead at the half.

They maintained their double-digit advantage in the third but Najma fought back in the final canto, getting to within just three points, 97-100, following a Joshua Caldwell lay-up. But Ettihad responded and went on a decisive 16-4 run to end the game, capped by an Ali Jassim three-pointer to peg the final score at the buzzer.

Ettihad led by as many as 17 in the contest en route to the result. Cleanthony Early scored 34 points to spearhead Ettihad, while Jordan Washington added 32 points to go with an impressive 14 rebounds and four steals. Mohammed Kuwayed and Ali Ghadeer finished with 11 apiece as Ettihad’s only other players in double figures.

For Najma, Caldwell had 34 points, including a red-hot seven three-pointers in the loss. Elijah Robinson chipped in with 24 along with 11 rebounds and seven assists. Mohayad Ameer scored 14 of the bench for Najma.

With the result, Ettihad claimed their third win in five outings and Najma dropped their second game, with both teams now on identical win-loss records on the league standings. Ettihad rose to third place on the table, behind only current leaders Al Ahli who boast a 4-1 mark, and defending champions Manama who are still unbeaten in four games.

Najma, on the other hand, dropped from first place to fourth, and are followed by Al Hala who have an identical record. Muharraq are currently in sixth place with three wins in four games, followed by Nuwaidrat and Bahrain Club who each have 2-2 records. Samaheej are ninth with just one win in five outings, while Sitra and Isa Town complete the standings with winless marks.
