Manama power past arch rivals Al Ahli

Defending champions Manama powered to an impressive 94-87 victory over arch-nemesis Al Ahli last night to kick off the seventh week of action in the 2023/2024 Zain Bahrain Basketball League.

Manama were in control for virtually the entire contest and enjoyed leads as big as 12 points.  The victors took a 28-19 advantage at the end of the first quarter but Ahli managed to cut the deficit to 46-50 at the half. 

An Ahmed Aldurazi jumper before the end of the third kept Ahli trailing by four, 63- 67, heading into the final canto. There, Manama did enough to stay ahead and close out the contest. 

American professional Sir'Dominic Pointer scored 29 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to pace Manama while Bahraini guard Mustafa Hussain added 26 markers. Mohammed Ameer contributed 16 points in the win. 

For Ahli, Unique McLean scored 23 and Adrian Uter chipped in with 18, while Aldurazi scored 11 in the loss.  With the result, Manama claimed their sixth victory and stayed as the only unbeaten team in the league. 

Ahli suffered their second loss in seven games to go with their five wins. Week seven action continues over the next three days from tomorrow until Monday. Tomorrow, Sitra take on Al Hala at 7.30pm. On Sunday, Al Najma face Samaheej at 5.30pm followed by Nuwaidrat playing Isa Town at 7.30pm. Monday evening will feature a lone game scheduled for a 5.30pm start between Muharraq and Bahrain Club.
