Muharraq claimed their first win last night in the Top Six of the 2023/2024 Isa bin Rashid Bahrain Volleyball League. The victors got off to a strong start in their match against fellow-title hopefuls Al Najma and took the first two sets, but conceded the third to their resurgent opponents.

Muharraq then closed things out with a fine fourth-set showing for the 3-1 (25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 25-21) score line. Ali Al Sairafi and Majeed Mohammed supplied the game-ending points for their team with powerful smashes at the net.

Also contributing to Muharraq’s triumph were Mahmood Al Afia, Sayed Ali Mohammed, Ahmed Issa and Italian-Argentinian professional Tomas Gallo. For Najma, leading their team were Swedish professional Jacob Link, Fadhel Abbas, Hassan Dhahi, Hussain Mahdi and Mahmood Hassan, among others.

Muharraq claimed their first win of this stage after losing to Al Ahli in their opening fixture last week. Najma were also searching for their maiden victory but suffered a second straight defeat. They had lost to defending champions Dar Kulaib previously. This stage of the league will be held in a double round-robin. The first round continues until the first week of next month, with the second round still to be scheduled by the Bahrain Volleyball Association.
