Fighter Pilot triumphs in feature race

Fighter Pilot lifted yesterday the Horse Welfare Authority Cup in the feature event at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority president and Bahrain Olympic Committee chief His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa was in attendance along with other high-ranking officials.
The meeting was the 11th of the 2023/2024 national season at REHC and it featured an eight-race card. Fighter Pilot’s triumph came in the seventh race of the day, held over five furlongs with a BD4,000 prize.
The five-year-old gelding was competing for owners Esnaad Racing and trainer Yousif Taher, while saddled by jockey Adam Al Balushi. Finishing behind as the runner-up was Vanguard Star, representing Al Afoo Racing, Mohammed Hasan and Soufiane Saadi; while Inveigle was third for Sayed Jawad Marzooq, Mahmood Jawad and Adnan Jaffar.
Two Horse Welfare Authority Cups were up for the taking yesterday. The other was in the final race of the day, held over 11 furlongs with BD3,000 in winnings, and it was won by Panning for Gold competing for Al Mohamediya Racing, Fawzi Nass and Hector Crouch.
Miss Yvonne made it a one-two for Al Mohamediya, with the Ali Abdulmajeed-trained horse ridden by Anas Al Siyabi; while Endifaa was third for Salman Al Alawi, Talal Al Alawi and Abdulla Faisal. Winforglory was the winner in race five to hoist the Ahl Alkhayl Cup. The four-year-old gelding won the eight-furlong, BD3,000 event for Al Mohamediya Racing, Ali Abdulmajeed and Hector Crouch.
Battyeford Boy was second competing for Abdulla Al Gaoud and Abdulla Kuwaiti, ridden by Abdulrahim Jasim; and Be Lucky My Son was third for Bin Isaan Racing, Fawzi Nass and Husain Makki. The Ascon Cup in the third race of the day was claimed by Galatia, competing for HH Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa and Haider Ebrahim, with Ebrahim Nader in the saddle.
The event was held over nine furlongs with a BD3,000 prize. Echo Through Time finished second for Al Adiyat Racing, AM Smith and Lee Newman, while December was third for Al Mohamediya Racing, Fawzi Nass and Hector Crouch. In yesterday’s fourth race, The Parent won the Al Ayam Publishing Est BSC Cup.
The three-year-old colt won the nine-furlong race, carrying a BD3,000 total prize, for Al Adiyat Racing, AM Smith and Gerland Mosse. Royal Scimitar was the runner-up for Al Mohamediya Racing, Fawzi Nass and Hector Crouch; while Returnofthemac came third for Al Mohamediya, Osama Hashim and Anas Al Siyabi. Two Al Hawaj Cups were also claimed in yesterday’s card. Notions lifted the Al Hawaj Cup in race six, held over seven furlongs with a BD3,000 total prize.
The four-year-old gelding lifted the trophy for Victorious, Fawzi Nass and Stephane Ladjadj; with Mission Boy coming second and Follow Suit completing the top three. Aquila claimed the second Al Hawaj Cup of the day, on offer in race two, held over 10 furlongs with a BD2,000 prize. Aquila triumphed for Abdulla Fawzi Nass, Fawzi Nass and Husain Makki, while Pisces came second and Tharb third.
In the day’s first race, a WAHO event over seven furlongs with a BD1,500 prize, Al Ma’anagy 1846 won for Al Khaldiya, Fawzi Nass and Husain Makki, with Tuwaisan 1844 and Al Hamdany 1810 completing the top three. The action at REHC continues today with another eight races on the cards making up the season’s 12th meeting. Two cups will be up for the taking today, with the Al Sakhir Cup in the first event, to be held over six-furlongs with a BD1,500 total prize; and the Late S Sharaf Alalawi Cup in race three, to be held over a six-furlong straight with BD2,000 in winnings.
