Man of Eden lifts Alba Cup

Man of Eden lifted the Aluminum Bahrain (Alba) Cup in the feature event yesterday at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
The Al Afoo Racing-owned four-year-old gelding, trained by Jaber Ramadhan, was ridden by Soufiane Saadi to the impressive win.
The race, which was the sixth of eight, was held over nine furlongs with a BD4,000 total prize up for grabs. Man of Eden finished ahead of Gulmarg, competing for owners Al Mohamediya Racing and trainer Fawzi Nass, while saddled by Jason Watson. Burglar came third for Al Adiyat Racing, AM Smith and Gerald Mosse.
Yesterday’s card marked the 14th meeting of the national horseracing season at REHC.
All eight races had Alba Cups to be claimed. Meanwhile, in the day’s seventh event, a Class One Domestic Grade Two race held over seven furlongs with BD3,000 in winnings, Blues Queen triumphed for M and E Racing, AM Smith and Mathieu Pelletan.
AM Smith-trained horses completed the top three, with Al Adiyat Racing’s Social Distancing coming second ridden by Lee Newman, and M and E Racing’s Black Shadow taking third with Edinson Rodriguez.
Hoist
In the final race of the day, held over seven furlongs with a BD3,000 prize, Bleak hoisted the Alba Cup for Abdulla Fawzi Nass, Fawzi Nass and Stephane Ladjadj. Modmin followed for HBR Racing, Khalid Al Khatri and Hussain Asghar, while Bussento was third for Al Mohamediya Racing, Fawzi Nass and Jason Watson.
In race five, Sovereign Spirit took first place after 11 furlongs to take the lion’s share of the BD3,000 prize.
The four-yearold gelding was racing for the Al Afoo-Ramadhan-Saadi triumvirate.
Illuminated was the runner-up for owner Mohammed Khalid Abdulrahim, trainer Haider Ebrahim and jockey Abdulrahim Jasim; while Finest Leader came third for Victorious, Fawzi Nass and Stephane Ladjadj. Anann triumphed in race four to come away with an Alba Cup for Al Afoo Racing, Mohammed Hasan and Mathieu Pelletan.
The four-year-old filly completed the five-furlong sprint offering a BD3,000 prize ahead of Swift Asset, racing for Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohamed Al Khalifa, Jaber Ramadhan and Salem Alajmi.
Nine Below Zero put two Al Afoo-Ramadhan horses in the top three, ridden by Mohammed Jamil.
Elsewhere yesterday, Dalayil won the Alba Cup in race three for HH Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, Haider Ebrahim and Ahmed Maki; Campolina claimed the Alba Cup in race two for Ebrahim Rashid Syndicate, Jaffar Radhi and Rosie Jessop; and Musannan 1881 won the Alba Cup in the first race of the day for Al Khaldiya, Fawzi Nass and Rosei Jessop.
