Bahrain’s senior men’s national football team arrived yesterday in Doha, where they will be taking part in the highly anticipated AFC Asian Cup, which kicks off today. The Bahrainis were received by Bahrain Football Association (BFA) vice-president His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Isa Al Khalifa and BFA secretary general Rashed Al Zoubi, along with other officials.

A reception was held at their hotel to celebrate the national team’s reaching the Qatari capital. The delegation travelled to Doha from their training camp in Dubai, where they conducted a final training session yesterday morning prior to their departure.

The Bahrainis also took to the pitch for their first training session in Doha last night, going right to work ahead of the start of the AFC Asian Cup. Bahrain are in Group E for the tournament’s preliminary round along with South Korea, Malaysia and Jordan.

The nationals kick off their campaign against the South Koreans on Monday at 2.30pm, and then take on their Malaysian counterparts on 20 January at 5.30pm. They complete the preliminaries against Jordan on 25 January at 2.30pm. All times are Bahrain.
