Al Najma continued their resurgence last night in their hopes of booking a berth in the Golden Square semi-finals of the 2023/2024 Isa bin Rashid Bahrain Volleyball League.
Najma overcame heavily favoured Al Ahli in a stunning three-set sweep for their second successive victory in the Top Six, thus increasing their chances of qualifying for the last four.
Najma were in control for virtually the entire contest except for a brief period late in the second set, but they were able to claim the well-deserved victory with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-14) score line.
Spearheading Najma in their win last night were Swedish import Jacob Link and top Bahraini talents Fadhel Abbas, Hassan Dhahi, Hussain Mahdi and Mahmood Hassa, among others.
For Ahli, they relied on Ali Ebrahim, Nasser Anan, Hani Ali, Hassan Shakhouri and newly signed Montenegro professional Marko Vukasinovic.
Najma improved to a 4-5 winloss record in the Top Six table, while Ahli dropped their second straight game to go to a 6-3 mark.
Despite the loss, Ahli are virtually assured of their place in the Golden Square.
The Top Six is being played in a double round-robin to determine the cast for the semis.
