Bahrainis Nasser, Al Samaheeji win individual awards

Bahrain’s Mohammed Habib Nasser and Hassan Al Samaheeji were both named to the Best Team of the 21st Asian Men’s Handball Championship, which came to a close in the Kingdom on Thursday night.

Nasser came away with the Best Centre Back honour, while Al Samaheeji was named the Best Left Wing.

The two national team stars were amongst eight players who were awarded individual accolades during the tournament’s closing ceremony.

Presenting them their respective trophies were Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) president and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) chief His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, GSA vice-president His Highness Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Cabinet Affairs undersecretary and BOC vice-president His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, and Bahrain Handball Association president Ali Issa.

Two players from tournament champions Qatar were also named onto the squad.

Moustafa Heiba was selected as the Most Valuable Player, while Anadin Suljakovic was named Best Goalkeeper.

From silver-medallists Japan, Adam Yuki Baig was named Best Right Back while Shuichi Yoshida was Best Line Player. Saleh Ali and Abdullah Alkhamees, both from fourth-placers Kuwait, were selected as Best Right Wing and Best Left Back, respectively. Qatar, Japan, Bahrain and Kuwait all secured their places in the 2025 IHF World Men’s Handball Championship, to be held in Croatia, Denmark, and Norway.
