Muharraq bow to Saudi’s Al Ahli in WASL basketball

Bahrain’s Muharraq bowed to Al Ahli of Saudi Arabia 65-95 last night in the 2023/2024 FIBA West Asia Super League (WASL).
Muharraq never led and trailed by as many as 31 points late in the contest, which was played at Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Sports Hall in Jeddah.
American professional Tyler Wilkerson was the top scorer for the Bahrainis with 23 points while also taking down 15 rebounds.
Ra’Shad James added 17 while Bader Abdulla Malabes scored 12. For the Saudis, Keith Hollis Thompson II had 29 points to lead five players in double figures.
Mrazouq Abdulwallad had 17 and Ivan Aska and Ali Shubayli finished with 15 apiece. The result was Muharraq’s second loss in five games in Group A of the WASL Gulf subzone.
The Bahrainis have one fixture remaining in this phase. It will be against Al Rayyan of Qatar on February 12 at home.
Muharraq are hoping to make it into the Gulf semi-finals in their debut campaign in the WASL.
They are one of two Bahraini clubs in this season’s tournament. Manama are the other in Group B, and they are the defending champions.
The top team from each pool at the end of this stage qualify directly for the best-of-three semis.
The second and thirdranked teams will play for the other final four berths, also in a best-of-three.
