Bahrain's Ahli set for West Asian volleyball

Bahrain’s Al Ahli Club are set to fly the Kingdom’s flag in the second West Asian Men ‘s Clubs Volleyball Championship, to be held in Muscat. The tournament is scheduled to get underway tomorrow and continue until February 12.

Eleven top volleyball teams are taking part in the event, which is being organised and run by the West Asian Volleyball Association. Ahli are in Group B for the preliminary round along with Khaibal SC of Yemen, Al Arabi SC of Qatar, Sohar SC of Oman, Shabab Al Hussain of Jordan, and Al Kuwait SC of Kuwait.

Group A features Al Rayyan SC of Qatar, Al Ibtisam of Saudi Arabia, Seeb Club of Oman, Baniyas SC of the UAE and Qadsia SC of Kuwait. Ahli open their campaign tomorrow against Shabab Al Hussain at 5pm.

Then, on Sunday, Ahli will be facing home side Sohar at 7pm. The following evening, they take on Arabi at 5pm, and then play their fourth game in as many days on Tuesday against Kuwait at 11am. They complete their preliminary round campaign against Khaibal Wednesday at 5pm. All times are Bahrain.

At the end of the group stage, the top four from each group move on to the quarter-finals, scheduled for February 9. That will then set the stage for the semi-finals the next day, and then the final on February 11. Ahli will be spearheaded in the competition by their top players including Ali Ebrahim, Nasser Anan, Mohammed Anan, Sayed Mohammed Al Abrar, Mahmoud Abdulhussain, Mohammed Habib, Hassan Shakhouri, and Montenegro professional Marko Vukasinovic, to name a few.
