Bahrain’s Al Ahli Club claimed their second successive victory in the second West Asian Men‘s Clubs Volleyball Championship in Muscat last night after sweeping past Shabab Al Hussain of Jordan 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-11).

The Bahrainis posted back-toback wins in the competition after also taking down home side Sohar SC of Oman in three sets, which followed an opening-day loss against Al Arabi SC of Qatar, also 0-3.

The Kingdom’s representatives secured their place in the tournament’s quarter-finals, with their seeding only to be determined following their final group game.

Ahli are in Group B for the first stage and they must finish amongst the top four teams after a single round-robin to advance to the last eight.

Group A features Al Rayyan SC of Qatar, Al Ibtisam of Saudi Arabia, Seeb Club of Oman, Baniyas SC of the UAE and Qadsia SC of Kuwait.

Ahli were spearheaded last night by top players Ali Ebrahim, Nasser Anan, Mohammed Anan, Sayed Mohammed Al Abrar, Mahmoud Abdulhussain, Mohammed Habib, Hassan Shakhouri, Montenegro professional Marko Vukasinovic, and Mahmood Alafia, who they have loaned from Muharraq Club for this competition.

Ahli have little time to rest as they return to action today morning at 11am, Bahrain time, when they complete their preliminary round campaign against Kuwait SC of Kuwait.

The tournament is scheduled to continue until February 12.

The quarters are scheduled for Friday, and then the semi-finals will be held the next day. The final and match for third place is currently slated for Sunday.
