Bahrain’s Al Dair last night missed out on a chance to qualify for the final of the 40th Gulf Clubs Handball Championship, currently being played in Doha.

The Bahrainis lost their semi -final to home side Al Rayyan 27-30, knocking them out of further title contention.

Dair will now be playing for the bronze medals in the tournament against either Kuwait SC of Kuwait or Al Arabi of Qatar, who squared off in the other last four contest.

It was a tough loss for the Bahrainis yesterday as they were leading at the half 14-13.

But Rayyan gradually battled back and once they tied the proceedings at 21-all, they rallied and Dair could not recover.

Rayyan scored six of the next eight goals, taking a 27-23 advantage, and Dair could only get as close as the final threegoal margin the rest of the way.

Meanwhile, also yesterday, Bahrain’s Al Shabab edged past Kuwait’s Burgan SC 29-28 in the fifth-to-eighth classification games.

Ahmed Redha was named the Player of the Match for Shabab and received an award for his excellence.
