Bahraini elite athlete Eunice Chebichii Chumba finished as the runner-up in the Nagoya Women’s Marathon, a Platinum event as part of the World Athletics Label Road Races, held in Japan.

Eunice completed the distance in two hours 21 minutes 25 seconds—just seven seconds behind winner Yuka Ando of Japan.

Eunice’s mark was also the fifth time she met the qualification standard for the women’s marathon for the Paris Olympic Games 2024, which is 2:26:50, during the qualifying timeframe of November 1, 2022, to April 30 of this year.

The 30-year-old, who is the 2023 Asian Games champion in the women’s marathon, was among more than 80 elite runners from across the globe competing in Nagoya.

Ayuko Suzuki, also from Japan, took third place in 2:21:33. The race was the first for Eunice in 2024 as she gears up to potentially compete for Bahrain at the Olympics this summer.

She was the only Bahraini competitor in the Nagoya race.
