Bahraini-British motor racing team 2 Seas Motorsport showed impressive pace yesterday during the official pre-season test and media day of the 2024 British GT Championship.
The series’ defending GT3 Teams’ champions had both their MercedesAMG GT3 Evo contenders out on track at Donington Park in Derby, the UK.
The pairing of Kevin Tse and Maximilian Goetz were behind the wheel of 2 Seas’ #18 car, while the tandem of Ian Loggie and Phil Keen were in their #6 challenger.
Both are racing this British GT campaign in the GT3’s Pro-Am class. Tse and Goetz powered to the top of the overall timesheet in the afternoon test session.
They clocked a fastest lap one minute 26.022 seconds while completing 70 laps of work. Their mark was also the quickest for the day. Loggie and Keen were not far behind, classified sixth overall with a best lap of 1:27.119—just 1.097 seconds from their teammates. They had put in 57 laps in the session.
In yesterday’s morning run, Tse and Goetz were sixth overall with a best lap of 1:37.164—2.267s behind pace-setters Ram Racing.
Loggie and Keen were not far behind in eighth overall at 1:38.334— 3.437s from the top. Tse and Goetz had just 10 laps while Loggie and Keen completed 21.
Capacity
2 Seas are this season part of a capacity 36-car field comprising 19 GT3s and 17 GT4s. All 72 drivers and 36 cars were announced prior to yesterday’s test and media day, which was the first time they were together.
The 19-strong GT3 entry is one more than last year and the most since 2014.
While the Pro-Am remains the most prominent class, a record seven Silver-Am crews are also set to contest the entire season.
Last year, 2 Seas’ two entries scored four race victories and four further podiums between them, going on to take a first-ever GT3 Teams’ championship title, with a round to spare, while also coming close to securing the GT3 drivers’ crown.
The 2024 British GT calendar features nine rounds in all.
The first two rounds will be held at Oulton Park from March 29 to April 1, and then round three will be in Silverstone from April 26 to 28.
Round four will be from May 23 to 26 in Donington Park, and then round five will be held at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium from June 21 to 23 as the only event outside of the UK for this season.
Rounds six and seven will then be held from July 12 to 14 at Snetterton, and then the championship returns to Donington for round eight from September 5 to 8.
That will set the stage for the season-finale at Brands Hatch on September 28 and 29.
