Bahraini-British motor racing team 2 Seas Motorsport kick off their title-defence this weekend in the 2024 British GT Championship. The series’ reigning GT3 teams’ champions are part of the capacity 36- car field that will be lining up on the grid in the season’s first two rounds of action, which gets underway today at Oulton Park Circuit in Cheshire, England.
Free practice, pre-qualifying, and qualifying will all be held today. The first two races of 2024, both over an hour’s length, will then take place tomorrow.
2 Seas are fielding two Pro-Am entries this season.
Former champion Ian Loggie returns for a second go-around with the team, now alongside the driver with the most British GT victories, Phil Keen, in 2 Seas’ #6 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo car.
The squad is also welcoming back Kevin Tse, partnering with MercedesAMG Performance driver Maximilian Gotz in their #18 challenger.
This season’s pairings combine two of the most consistent and competitive Am drivers, alongside two of the fastest and most highly decorated drivers in the sport.
Ahead of this weekend’s first two rounds, 2 Seas showed impressive pace in the official pre-season test and media day held at Donington Park in Derby earlier this month.
Tse and Goetz highlighted their performance by powering to the top of the overall timesheet in the afternoon test session.
Compete
Nineteen of the cars lining up this weekend are competing in the GT3 class, while the other 17 are in the GT4. The GT3 entry is one more than last year and the most since 2014.
While the Pro-Am remains the most prominent class, a record seven Silver-Am crews are also set to contest the entire season.
Last year, 2 Seas’ two entries scored four race victories and four further podiums between them, going on to take a first-ever GT3 Teams’ championship title, with a round to spare, while also coming close to securing the GT3 drivers’ crown.
The 2024 British GT calendar features nine rounds in all.
Following the first two rounds, round three will be held in Silverstone from April 26 to 28.
Round four will then take place from May 23 to 26 in Donington Park, and then round five will be held at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium from June 21 to 23 as the only event outside of the UK for this season.
Rounds six and seven will then be held from July 12 to 14 at Snetterton, and then the championship returns to Donington for round eight from September 5 to 8.
That will set the stage for the season-finale at Brands Hatch on September 28 and 29.
