Mumbai Indians narrowly defeated Punjab Kings by nine runs in the IPL yesterday, thanks to Ashutosh Sharma’s blistering 61 off 28 balls, which almost turned the game in Punjab’s favour. Despite a precarious start at 17/4, Ashutosh and Shashank Singh (41 off 25) fought back, bringing Punjab close to victory.

However, Ashutosh’s dismissal in the 18th over shifted the momentum back to Mumbai. Suryakumar Yadav led Mumbai’s batting with 78 runs, helping them reach 192/7.

Mumbai’s pacers, including Jasprit Bumrah (3/21) and Gerald Coetzee (3/32), provided key breakthroughs early on. Despite a late resurgence from Punjab’s tailenders, Mumbai secured their third win in seven games, while Punjab suffered their fifth loss.

The match saw standout performances from both sides, with notable contributions from Rohit Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Harpreet Brar. Ashutosh’s aggressive knock was a highlight, featuring seven sixes and two fours, but it wasn’t enough to take his team over the line.
