Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant has been suspended for one match and fined for a slow over rate offence by his IPL team, a tournament statement said yesterday.

Pant, a wicketkeeper-batsman who has made an impressive return to the T20 tournament after a 2022 horror car crash, will miss a crucial away match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Sunday as his team battles for a place in the playoffs.

Delhi won their sixth match of the season earlier this week against Rajasthan Royals at their home Arun Jaitley Stadium but bowled their quota of 20 overs in more than the given time.

“As it was his team’s third offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 Lac ($35,900) and suspended for one match,” the release said.

“The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 12 Lac ($14,360) or 50 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.”

Delhi, have played in the IPL since the inaugural season in 2008 but never won a title, are fifth on the 10-team table with 12 points and in the hunt to make the play-offs.

The top four teams will make the play-offs with the final on May 26 in Chennai.
