Anne Hathaway has extended a “very personal” apology to reporter Kjersti Flaa regarding an uncomfortable interview from 2012, which was conducted to promote Les Miserables. The now 41-year-old actress reflected on the “cringe-worthy” exchange, where she provided one-word answers and notably refused to respond to Flaa’s initial question in song after the journalist made a lighthearted joke.

In a recent TikTok video, Flaa expressed her surprise at Hathaway's outreach. "I was pretty shocked by the apology. I had not expected her to reach out to me at all. I thought she was never going to see that video, but she did, and she did something pretty amazing," Flaa shared.

In a detailed email, Hathaway explained the personal challenges she was facing at the time and expressed her regret for the “awful interview.” During their initial conversation, Hathaway had simply replied “no” to questions about her first crush and whether she believed love was more passionate during the time of Les Miserables.

Flaa, who previously criticized Blake Lively after a tense interview in 2016, described Hathaway's apology as “so touching.” She said, “Just talking about it makes me almost teary-eyed. I was just so grateful that she did that.”

Although the specifics of Hathaway's email remain private, Flaa noted its nature, emphasizing how much it meant to her. “I said, ‘If you ever want to sit down and talk about it, I’m here,’” she recounted, adding that Hathaway has invited her to interview her for her upcoming film set to be released in May.

Flaa concluded, “I just wanted to share with you guys what she did because I thought that was just so amazing.”
