Reese Witherspoon ‘still waiting’ for key update on Big Little Lies

Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman are eagerly anticipating news about the third season of their acclaimed HBO series, Big Little Lies. The actresses, aged 48 and 57, respectively, expressed their excitement during a recent interview, highlighting that they are currently “waiting” for author Liane Moriarty to provide new material for the upcoming season.

In her conversation with E! News, Witherspoon revealed, “Nicole and I have been waiting. We’re waiting for Liane Moriarty. She’s going to be turning in something very soon. We’re back to the original author, and we’re going to revisit the original characters.”

While Witherspoon admits she doesn’t have many details to share at the moment, she is curious about the characters' development since the series last aired from 2017 to 2019. “It’s exciting, too, because I think the kids are probably a little bit older now,” she noted. “So that might add another element. I don’t know yet; I haven’t read it yet.”

Kidman confirmed plans for a new season back in November 2023 and revealed over the summer that she was initially too eager to share the news. In a June interview with Vanity Fair, she said, “I got excited. But we are now! We’re moving fast and furious, and Liane is delivering the book. Yeah, and we’re in good shape.”

The Perfect Couple actress, who also starred alongside Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz, and Shailene Woodley in the show, emphasized the importance of keeping details about the new season under wraps until there is actual progress. She remarked, “We need to shut up. There’s this whole thing that you should never talk about something until you’ve done it.”
