The world mourns the passing of John Tinniswood, the world’s oldest living man, who died peacefully at 112 on November 25, 2024, in Southport, England. His extraordinary life, marked by humility, wisdom, and resilience, leaves behind a legacy that spans more than a century of remarkable global change.

John’s record-breaking journey began in Liverpool on August 26, 1912. He became the world’s oldest man in April 2024, following the passing of Venezuela’s Juan Vicente Pérez, aged 114. Despite his longevity, Tinniswood modestly credited his extended years to “pure luck,” maintaining an active mind and a love for moderation in all things.

Though John’s remarkable age made him the fourth-oldest man in British history, the record for the oldest man ever belongs to Jiroemon Kimura of Japan. Born on April 19, 1897, Kimura lived an awe-inspiring 116 years before his passing in 2013.

Both men witnessed incredible transformations across centuries, from technological advancements to societal shifts. Tinniswood reflected on these changes with a mix of awe and skepticism, once saying, “The world has gone smaller because of modern travel...but otherwise, it’s about the same.”
