The Winter Chalet at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain offers a one-of-a-kind experience that opens every night (except Sundays) during the winter season. The chalet is a replica of a rustic alpine cottage with wooden walls and flooring, creating a warm and snug, cabin-like ambiance. Furthermore, the faux fireplace seating is so welcoming that I could picture myself having a cup of tea there. Chandeliers add luxury, while lights, candles, and Christmas décor are a beautiful reminder of the festive season.
Our friendly servers placed a basket of crusty bread served with butter and sundried tomato spread, and a glass of mulled wine. I glanced through the menu while relishing the bread and listening to Christmas tunes.
The right way to begin this luxurious culinary journey is with a French onion soup. This is one of the best French onion soups in Bahrain! Served in a pot, I opened the lid to reveal the steaming hot, mouthwatering soup made from rich beef broth. The caramelized onions added sweetness and texture to the soup. The soup was topped with a piece of toast that soaked up the broth, and the melted Gruyère cheese completed the soul-satisfying experience with each spoonful.
I chose the Swiss salad too. The portion was generous and the salad had a wholesome mix of greens, tomatoes, and tiny cubes of Emmental cheese, topped with grilled chicken and a poached egg. I sprinkled some salt and pepper on the salad and cut through the poached egg. The golden yolk oozed out onto the salad, and each bite of the greens with the cheese, egg, and perfectly grilled chicken was scrumptious!
The Fondue Bourguignonne is my favorite dish at the Winter Chalet because it is a fun experience as I got to cook the beef in a pot of hot oil placed on our table. I cooked my beef to my desired doneness, medium to medium well, cracked some black pepper and salt on the beef, and relished every bite with each of the sauces served alongside: tartar, aioli, cocktail, chili, and Dijon sauces. The beef tenderloin was so tender and succulent, I have never eaten beef that tender before. A basket of French fries was served with the beef, and who could possibly stay away from piping hot potato fries? Not me.
I ended this night to remember with an apple strudel and a steaming hot cup of green tea. The sweet and tart apples with cinnamon, blanketed in thin pastry and dusted with icing sugar, was a delectable winter dessert.
I also recommend the cheese raclette with baby potatoes and pickles, and a plate of cold cuts to enjoy the gooey, melted cheese.
Cosy up to a delightful dinner at the Winter Chalet with your friends and family and make memories that will last a lifetime!
