The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) has unveiled "Manama Retro," an innovative tourism event that transports visitors through Bahrain's rich history and cultural heritage. Launched on December 25, 2024, as part of the Celebrate Bahrain 2024 season, the event will run until January 7, 2025, showcasing iconic eras that shaped the Kingdom’s identity.

Held in the vibrant Manama Souq, the event reflects the essence of Bahraini culture by recreating pivotal moments from the nation’s past. Visitors can explore immersive experiences in the Souq’s streets and squares, including exhibitions, classic shopping experiences, and local culinary delights. Highlights include events on the rooftop of Yateem Centre, one of the region’s first shopping malls, and at Al Zainah Plaza, which offers a retro-inspired shopping journey.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Her Excellency Fatima bint Jaffar Al Sairafi, Minister of Tourism, emphasized the significance of Manama Souq as a cultural and commercial hub. “Manama Retro captures Bahrain’s distinctive identity by celebrating the cultural diversity and rich history of the capital. This event reinforces Manama’s position as a leading tourist and cultural destination, contributing to the goals of the Tourism Strategy 2022-2026.”

Ms. Sarah Ahmed Buheji, CEO of BTEA, praised the collaboration with young Bahraini talents and private sector partners. She stated, “Manama Retro demonstrates our commitment to diversifying Bahrain’s tourism offerings. By working with Bahraini youth and local projects, we aim to provide a unique experience that highlights the Kingdom’s creativity, heritage, and identity.”

The event is supported by key sponsors, including the National Bank of Bahrain, Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), STC, Infracorp, and Urbaser, further underscoring the strong collaboration between public and private sectors in driving Bahrain’s tourism growth.

Visitors can look forward to an array of cultural and historical exhibitions, shopping experiences, and culinary treats, making Manama Retro a must-visit event during the festive season.
