Art from the Heart
Uzma Dadabai, who was born and schooled in Karachi, completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Art before getting married to Qutub Dadabai, a well renowned Bahraini Business man. After marriage, she moved to Bahrain.
As a self-taught artist, she developed her own style of Arabic Calligraphy. She has conducted and participated in numerous exhibitions in London, Pakistan and Bahrain, most notably in Art Bahrain and other parts of the Middle East.
Inspiration
Uzma’s art involves pure inspirations from the names of God and verses from the Holy Quran.
Speaking to her about her passion, she said, “When I was as little as five years old, I used to write words from the Quran on top of each other and when I was seven, I won a prestigious award from the former Pakistani Prime Minister’s wife for a drawing of a Mosque.”
“Painting has been my passion and pastime from as early as I can remember. My inspiration is and has always been God’s name and this has been manifested in all my works. Serving God is something that motivates me and this has been demonstrated in all of my paintings. Since 2010, all proceeds from my paintings have been donated to charity. I consider art as a way of my contribution to the society,” she revealed.
When Uzma was asked about the meaning behind her art and how she strives to perfect them, she said, “I, as an artist, do not consider any paintings of mine as a favourite. All of my paintings are dear to me. I use a mix of mediums, such as acrylics, fibreglass, semi-precious stones, etching, gold leaf, gliding etc. for my paintings. I consistently strive to convey the concepts of beauty, power and mysticism.”
“I feel very strong about spirituality and my works reflect it. I always imagine about Divine light and all my concepts are connected to the light of God or energy and positivity. Through my paintings, I would like to contribute more to society, especially the underprivileged children,” she added.
When she was asked about her future plans, she remarked, “I am a nonstop painter. Painting is not just my passion, but also my strength as well as my forte. I am currently working on a few projects and will reveal it when the times right. This has been my driving force and this is where my desire lies.”
