Audi is nearing the final stages of development for its flagship Q9 SUV, which is set to compete with premium models like the BMW X7, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and Range Rover. Expected to be the largest and most luxurious Audi SUV to date, the Q9 will feature a three-row, seven-seat layout similar to the Q7, with a potential six-seat configuration similar to the Bentley Bentayga.

Built on an extended version of Volkswagen Group’s Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), the Q9 will support longitudinally mounted powertrains, ranging from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine to a powerful V8. A performance-focused SQ9 variant with a V8 engine and a plug-in hybrid option is also anticipated.

Audi first teased the Q9 during the Q8 launch in 2018, with prototypes spotted testing since 2021. Despite being camouflaged, design elements visible on the prototypes resemble current Audi models, including slim LED daytime running lights, a honeycomb grille, and a rear light bar.

Targeting markets such as the USA, China, and UAE, the Q9 may also reach the UK. The SUV is expected to debut in 2026, with a potential UK launch in 2027.
