Although Apple has not officially announced the iPhone 18 lineup, early leaks suggest the iPhone 18 Pro could bring a long-awaited upgrade: 8K video recording. This feature, which has been available on several Android smartphones for years, would mark Apple’s entry into ultra-high-resolution video— finally matching competitors like Samsung and Xiaomi in this space.

Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra, released in early 2021, was among the first to support 8K video at 24fps. Since then, flagship models like the Galaxy S23 Ultra, Xiaomi 13 Pro, and Sony Xperia 1 V have continued to refine 8K capture capabilities, offering enhanced frame rates, stabilisation, and editing features. Apple, traditionally focused on refining 4K video quality and colour science, has so far held back on 8K—likely due to concerns over file sizes, battery consumption, and user demand.

If the iPhone 18 Pro delivers 8K video alongside its rumoured Samsung-built three-layer stacked image sensor, it could offer one of the most advanced mobile video experiences to date. The new sensor is expected to improve low-light performance, increase dynamic range, and produce sharper stills and video—making 8K more than just a spec-sheet feature.

On the software side, Apple is also enhancing its ecosystem. The iOS 18.4 update introduces eight new emojis, a ‘Sketch Style’ option in Image Playground, and smarter photo management in the Photos app.

Expected to launch in September 2025, the iPhone 18 Pro is shaping up to be a compelling option for mobile photographers and filmmakers—catching up with Android rivals while potentially setting new standards for image quality.
