Google fumbles then corrects

Google seems to have quickly corrected itself after a  tweet by an American lady  Hind Makki regarding Google Search engine’s suggestion “ Did you mean American Muslims support terrorism”  when she searched for “american muslims report terrorism” went viral and QUARTZ did a story  on the issue.

It seems, Quartz says, it is not the fault of Google algorithms which usually suggests corrections based on common spelling errors. But, this suggestion stems from a much deeper problem; the web is full of sites which tell Google algorithms that “American Muslims support terrorism” is the norm and not an exception. The search algorithms are believed to be heavily reliant on the frequency of search terms and web pages contents, irrespective of the authenticity of the content. To tell the world about the inaccuracy about such a suggestion from Google search engines, QUARTZ linked to a report published in December.

When DT News checked the search engine using the same terms, it didn’t offer any suggestions; it seems, Google might have rectified the mistake.
