Actor Chris Hemsworth 'nearly died' on India Himalayan trip
"Oxygen in my brain...and then goodnight! we wouldn't be sitting here," Hollywood hunk Chris Hemsworth recounted how he nearly died on a recent trip to the Himalayas in India.
Appearing on comedian Jimmy Kimmel's talk show, the Avengers star - who plays superhero and 'Norse god' in Marvel's popular 'Avengers' series - proved he is not immortal after all and not only did he almost die on his Himalayan trip with his wife, but also 'lost his mind'.
Hemsworth had embarked on a trip with this wife Elsa Pataky, who was doing a travel show for a Spanish channel:
"She was doing a travel show and I was her plus one. We got higher and higher and we ended up at about 4,000 meters (13,123 feet) above sea level," Hemsworth, 32, told the talk show host.
"You acclimate every couple of days. You plant yourself in one place and your body adjusts to that lack of oxygen and so on, and you go higher and higher."
The 6'3 actor explained how he 'slowly started to lose his mind' as they went higher - due to altitude sickness.
Hemsworth goes on to explain the night when his mind and body gave in to altitude sickness - where he had become cranky and 'emotional over the most trivial of things' but gradually was gasping for air, which he described as "Darth Vader meets Daffy Duck".
The actor had to be taken down from the mountain after his wife alerted guards.
"They come back and take one look at me and they're like, 'Get him off the mountain,'" he added. "And they start injecting me with all sort of whatever's going to adjust my oxygen intake.
"Apparently, the oxygen in my lungs, the next stage was oxygen in my brain and then - goodnight. We wouldn't be sitting here...for some reason I couldn't handle it."
Clearly, the Himalayas was too 'breathtaking' for superhero, Thor!
