Deepika Padukone auditions for Tom Cruise's The Mummy

Deepika Padukone seems to be establishing her feet firmly in Hollywood - after 'xXx' - by landing an audition for 'The Mummy' movie, starring action star Tom Cruise!

The young Bollywood star, who is currently shooting for her debut Hollywood movie, Vin Diesel's 'xXx: The Return of Xander Cage' in Canada, has also been auditioning for few other roles, according to a report by entertainment website Spotboye.com

The report said:

'SpotboyE has it that the xXx actress auditioned for a pivotal role - that of an Egyptian girl - in Tom Cruise's The Mummy sometime last month in Los Angeles. Dippy has since been waiting for a revert- but none yet in sight.'

The website quoted a source as saying, "They are looking at other options. Even if Deepika doesn't make the cut, the very fact that she was in the running for an important role in a Tom Cruise starrer is quite a high in itself."

Earlier, there were reports doing the rounds that 'Gangs of Wasseypur' actress Huma Qureshi had also auditioned for the said role.

"Huma has recently auditioned for the third part of the successful franchise starring Hollywood star Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella playing the lead antagonist," Huma's spokesperson had said in a statement, according to a Hindustan Times report.

The Mummy is one of the many remakes planned by Universal Pictures in an effort to create an 'interconnected universe' for their classic monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein, the Invisible Man, the Bride of Frankenstein, and vampire hunter Van Helsing.

Alex Kurtzman will be directing the The Mummy reboot from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus).

In recent years, Bollywood actresses have been making their mark in Hollywood, with Priyanka Chopra not only landing a TV series, Quantico, but also a role in The Rock starrer 'Baywatch'.
