To fridge or not to fridge? Heinz clears the air on how you should store ketchup

While some believe that the proper place to store ketchup is in the refrigerator, others believe that it should be kept outside, citing supermarket shelves as evidence, but a well-known American company has settled the online debate.

Following a heated debate on social media over "Is ketchup supposed to be kept in the fridge or outside?" Jennifer Lopez and Cardi B were among those who took part.

The Heinz company, which specializes in this red condiment, put an end to the debate by confirming that it belongs in the refrigerator.

Jennifer Lopez, an international actress and singer, stated, "If you store ketchup in the refrigerator, it won't work," while rapper Cardi B stated, "People who put ketchup in the refrigerator cannot be trusted."

However, Heinz, one of the most well-known brands in the ketchup industry, explained in a tweet published last Wednesday: "For your information: ketchup goes to the refrigerator!!" The tweet sparked debate on social media among those who agreed and disagreed with Heinz's statement, prompting them to conduct a poll for their Twitter followers titled, "Where do you keep yours?"

The results showed that 63.2% kept it in the fridge, while 36.8% kept it in the cupboard.

In turn, Heinz explained that ketchup contains natural acids, allowing it to be stored outside of the refrigerator. However, the product label advises "keeping it in a cool place as soon as it is opened and used."

"There was only one correct answer, and we are excited to share it with Heinz tomato ketchup fans across the UK," a Heinz representative in the UK said. "Our ketchup should be kept in the fridge."
