A new study finds that not brushing your teeth before bed increases your risk of cardiovascular disease.

Scientists studied 1,675 patients aged 20 and over who visited Osaka University Hospital in Japan between April 2013 and March 2016 for examination, surgery, or treatment.

They were divided into four groups based on their oral hygiene habits, and age, gender, smoking history, and dental and medical records were also assessed.

The researchers found that people who brushed their teeth at night were less likely to have heart disease.

The study said, "The results clearly indicate that brushing only in the morning after waking up is not sufficient and that brushing at night is good for maintaining good health."

They added, "To prevent cardiovascular diseases, it is necessary to brush the teeth before breakfast, but the most important thing is to brush the teeth at night before going to bed."

Researchers believe that oral bacteria are responsible for inflammation throughout the body, which can lead to serious health problems such as cardiovascular disease.
