Threads, the microblogging platform developed by Meta-owned Instagram, generated quite a stir when it debuted on July 6. It topped 95 million subscribers in a single day and even drew a lawsuit from its main rival, Elon Musk's Twitter. Netizens, on the other hand, seemed divided on an entirely different issue: what exactly does the Threads logo mean?

Indian users quickly flocked to social media to point out that the Threads logo is really a "90-degree clockwise rotation" of the Malayalam letter, which is pronounced 'ത്ര'.

Other people speculated that the Threads logo resembles the Tamil letter கு, pronounced 'ku'.

For some, the Threads logo resembles the letter 'u' in Odia, which is written as ଉ.

Of course, foodies immediately gravitated towards the splendidly scrumptious jalebi, and it's hard to blame them.

Dedicated tech enthusiasts might argue that Threads' logo just represents the recent trend among technology businesses, in which logos and general stylings are gradually adopting older styles typified by strong simplicity. Nothing by Carl Pei is possibly one of the greatest examples.

Because Meta has not offered any specifics on what the Threads logo truly represents, we would like to point out that none of the above is accurate, and the underlying foundation behind the design is fairly basic, reflecting the spirit and identity of the app like no other.

Let's position the two logos next to each other to better comprehend.

The Instagram logo, as we all know, is a retro Instax-style camera (see the lens-like circle and flash on top?).

Threads is now an Instagram-integrated app. To begin, you cannot use Threads unless you have an Instagram account. So it stands to reason that the overall design of the Threads logo will reveal its relationship to the Instagram logo.

Keeping this in mind, compare the Threads and Instagram logos. Re-examine the photo above. Are you starting to recognise the similarities?

Furthermore, if you've already started using Threads, you've probably seen the strings-like style that dominates the app's UI. The logo is really developed with a single thread in mind, reflecting the app's mentality. So, a nod to the Instagram logo while remaining true to the threads-inspired design. Of course, the Threads logo is a nod to the good ol' @ sign, which is connected with user IDs on practically all prominent social networking networks.

We see what you did there, Meta!

Having said that, there has been no confirmation from the creators on the design, therefore readers are advised to take this news with a pinch of salt!
