Man sets first Guinness record for hoverboard flight

A man has set a Guinness record for 'farthest flight by hoverboard', flying 275m on a device he created himself.

People have been fascinated with the idea of hoverboards ever since Back To The Future brought the idea to cinema audiences in 1985.

Thirty years later, with the advent of drone technology and advanced electronics, Canadian Catalin Alexandru Duru has managed to create a self-propelled platform capable of lifting a person which can be steered using only the feet.

Guinness World Records on Friday posted a recording to its YouTube channel of Mr Duru riding his hoverboard over Lake Ouareau in Quebec, Canada, successfully claiming the record for 'Farthest flight by hoverboard' for the first time.

To set the record, he needed to fly just 50m, but easily surpassed this, travelling a total of 275.9m, or 905 feet.

Mr Duru described his device as "the first real-life hoverboard".

"I will showcase that stable flight can be achieved with a machine one can stand on and control with their feet," he said.
