Lanzante, an engineering firm based in Petersfield, has announced it will unveil the Tag Championship, an upgraded version of its Formula 1-engined Porsche 911, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
This new model is based on the 930-generation 911 Turbo but replaces the original flat-six engine with a Porsche-developed, Tag-branded powerplant that powered McLaren’s F1 cars to three consecutive drivers’ championship titles from 1984 to 1986.
The 1.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, upgraded by Cosworth for road use, features revised internals such as new pistons, conrods, and valves, improved cooling, and lighter titanium turbochargers.
These enhancem e n t s boost the engine’s output to 625bhp, up from the previous 503bhp, and enable it to rev up to 10,250rpm.
The engine is paired with a reworked version of the six-speed gearbox from the later 993-generation 911, featuring a bespoke set of gear ratios that reportedly a llow for a top speed of 200mph.
In addition to the exotic engine, the Tag Championship 911 has undergone a chassis overhaul and many of its body panels have been replaced with “Formula 1-grade” carbon fibre.
The interior has been stripped of nearly all its luxuries, including electric mirrors and windows, and a roll cage has been installed to enhance rigidity and crash protection.
