Khalifa bin Salman port gets digitised
Manama : APM Terminals Bahrain said it is adding a new General Cargo Terminal Operating System (GC-TOS) to Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP) to optimise its operational efficiency and customer services.
The new system, which will initially focus on digitising KBSP’s maritime services followed by General Cargo and Billing, will result in faster and efficient cargo flow, APM said in a
statement.
The move, according to APM, is also its first step towards digital transformation to improve the management data between the port, cargo owners, shipping lines and other stakeholders.
APM Terminals Bahrain is the operator of Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP). The company is a JV between APM Terminals International BV and YBA Kanoo Holdings of Bahrain.
The Cargo Terminal Operating System is expected to produce immediate improvements in terminal productivity and customer service through a centralized information portal which includes cargo booking and movement, documentation, pre-arrival notifications to name a few.
Stressing on the importance of digital transformation in going forward, Mark Hardiman, CEO/Managing Director of APM Terminals Bahrain said, “It will maximize efficiencies for the entire supply chain providing stakeholders real-time data and insights, transparency and reliability; creating business value for them. This will further increase port’s competitiveness helping KBSP achieve its ambition of becoming the region’s leading transshipment centre of the Upper Gulf.”
