Bahrain Farmers Market a hit among all customers
The fourth edition of the Bahrain Farmers Market is attracting a lot of expats and Bahraini citizens, who are interested in buying the locally grown products at a reasonable price.
The new edition of the Farmers Market is going on at the Budaiya Gardens next to the police station on every Saturday from 8am to 12 noon.
“Farmers Market is useful as it provides fresh local produce from Bahraini farms,” Sunil Kumar, an Indian expat, who visited the farmers market yesterday said, adding that compared to the price of vegetables in supermarkets, the Farmers Market is a boon for expats in gathering all types of vegetables under one roof.
This year the market started on December 5. The bus services via Budaiya highway is very helpful for ordinary expats to reach the markets.
More than 35 Bahraini farmers are participating in the Bahrain Farmers Market to provide a variety of local agricultural products. There is also a food court in the Budaiya Gardens. Many leading local restaurants are also participating to present local food and drinks with the aim of introducing local food to the visitors of various nationalities.
“Best vegetables for a great price. It’s located in a pretty garden and the vendors are very friendly,” another expat Aliena commented.
Bahrain Farmers Market targets promoting Bahrain’s agricultural products and highlighting the development taking place in Bahrain’s agricultural sector.
It also aims to contribute to improving the Bahraini farmers’ income through a marketing system prepared by the Agriculture and Marine Resources to assist in meeting the farmers’ aspirations.
Undersecretary of Agriculture and Marine Resources, Shaikh Khalifa bin Isa Al Khalifa earlier said that the Ministry had adopted the vision of Wife of His Majesty the King and Supreme Council for Women Chairwoman HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa to hold a market for Bahraini farmers, which has been successful since its first edition.
Bahrain Farmers Market’s main goal is to meet the aspirations of the Bahraini farmers and promote their products nation-wide.
The participants are holders of a valid Agriculture Licence and they sell locally grown products only.
Bahrain Farmers Market will be open every Saturday until the end of April 2016, from 8 am to 12 noon.
