RCSI Bahrain equips nursing students with career insights and opportunities

Under the patronage of Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) – Medical University of Bahrain hosted its Annual Nursing Careers Day. The event aimed to provide final-year nursing students with insights into employment opportunities and career development pathways.

The event commenced with a welcome by Professor Kathryn Strachan, Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, who addressed Dr Jalila bint Al Sayyed Jawad Hassan, Minister of Health, healthcare officials, faculty, and over 115 nursing students. Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed stressed the importance of cultivating a skilled nursing workforce to achieve Bahrain’s healthcare strategies and National Vision.

Guest speakers, including Dr Jameela Mukhaimer, President of Bahrain Nursing and Midwifery Society, and Ms Lamya Habaishi, NHRA Nursing Profession Registration Specialist, discussed NHRA Examinations, scholarships, international qualifications, and RCSI’s MSc in Nursing programme. Alumni and faculty shared insights into career pathways.

Keynote speaker Professor Rowaida Al Maaitah emphasized, “Investing in nursing and midwifery is not just about health outcomes—it fosters economic growth, societal resilience, and global health security.”

Since its establishment in 2006, the School of Nursing and Midwifery has graduated 1,452 nurses, with an impressive 92% employment rate as of June 2024. Professor Strachan highlighted RCSI’s commitment to preparing nursing students to excel in dynamic, multicultural healthcare environments.
