Old woman caged in bathroom for 2 years
An old woman, who had been caged for two years in a bathroom fitted with iron bars, had been rescued by a team of Sri Lankan police officers on Wednesday from Diddeliya area, ‘Lankadeepa’ reported.
Even when police arrived at the place, she had been locked in the room and the victim had been identified as, Ranasinghe Arachchige Karunawathi, a 71-year-old mother of two, who had been hospitalized for treatment.
As the owner of the home had gone to work abroad, the police had taken a grand-daughter and another daughter living in another home to custody for questioning.
The grand-daughter, who had been looking after the victim, had told the police that as her ailing grandmother used to soil her dresses, they had kept her locked.
Police were making arrangement to produce the victim along with the arrested women before the Balapitiya magistrate court.
