Heavy rainfall and fog caused significant flight delays and cancellations at London’s busiest airports, as reduced visibility disrupted operations.
According to FlightAware, an aviation tracking service, approximately 20% of flights at Heathrow Airport, Europe’s largest, were delayed, with 3% of takeoffs and landings cancelled.
At London City Airport, around 25% of outbound flights were delayed, while Gatwick Airport saw delays on about one third of its inbound services, Bloomberg reported.
British Airways was particularly impacted, with 230 flights delayed and 56 cancelled. The airline has yet to comment on the situation.
KLM confirmed in a statement that several of its flights bound for London City Airport were diverted to Southend Airport, outside the capital.
